Sennheiser EW-D Vs Sennheiser EW-100
Both systems are affordable and flexible all-round wireless systems designed for instruments, vocals and speech on stage and in fixed installations. Unlike the more premium 300 and 500 series, EW100G4 and EW-D are about the same price and share some common features and settings. But with an extra 2 and a half years in development, EW-D brings some serious improvements that make the move from analog to digital wireless worth it.
CHANNELS, FREQUENCIES, MONITORING
Dynamic range isn't the only thing that's been greatly improved. Sennheiser also increased the bandwidth of EW-D to 56 MHz and added 'Equidistant Channel Spacing' from the flagship D6000 and D9000 systems, enabling a 600 kHz spacing between channels and eliminating intermodulation problems. This increase also means that EW-D can support over 4x as many channels as EW100, and can be scaled up to a total of 90 channels. EW-DX has a larger bandwidth of 88 Mhz in which no less than 146 channels can be used, but also offers a Link Density mode in which 293 channels can be used! The Equidistant Channel Spacing between channels is done automatically during a frequency scan where Link Density can be turned on or off, further simplifying setup for all users.
SOUND PERFORMANCE
With G4, Sennheiser has improved the performance of the G3 series across the board. But when it comes to sonic performance, EW-D has taken the lead with a huge dynamic range of 134 dB. But what does that mean in practice? The EW100G4 and many other systems use a compander to reduce high and low frequency distortion to maintain clarity. This is great for avoiding unwanted noise, but can lead to some distortion and loss of detail on loud instruments or sounds.
EW-D, on the other hand, uses a digital codec to process audio much better, providing greater dynamic range than any other wireless system in its price range. The only downside to wireless digital systems is latency, but Sennheiser has managed to keep latency down to just 1.9ms, which is virtually negligible.

Are you using the new EW-DX EM2 receiver? Then you can monitor and operate your entire wireless system via the network connection and Sennheiser Control Cockpit.
BATTERY LIFE
When all-day performance is a necessity, both systems offer an amazing 8 hours of battery life on 2 AA batteries in continuous use. However, EW-D has another new accessory, the new BA70 battery pack that gives you up to 12 hours of battery life on a single charge, enough for 1 or even several events or performances in a row. Not only more convenient, also a lot better for the environment. The battery packs can be charged with the L 70 USB charger, the L 6000 rackmount 19” charger or directly in the belt pack or handheld transmitter in the CHG70 N network charger.
