Description

The unit has two smooth endless rotary encoder knobs with push buttons, that can control multiple channels by switching the channel set. I try to make products that don’t require a user manual, but anyway:

Plug in via USB A
– Turn to adjust volume or gain
– Quick press to toggle channel screen and activate trim control for the selected channel
– Double press to navigate channels

The enclosure is made from carbon infused PETG. USB cable can point either sideways or down. Comes with a clip holder and a good quality USB cable

  • Length: 80 mm
  • Width: 21 mm
  • Height: 45 mm

Weight: 70 grams

FAQ:

What’s new compared to the previous 2 knob controllers?
– There’s a display with level indicators!
– Multiple different functions, channel sets, master fader, bus gains, custom midi commands.
– Completely different design
– Master fader, configurable bus or output fader in the 8 series
– USB cable exit can point either sideways or down
– Slightly larger knobs
– Threaded brass M3 inserts for various mounting methods

Was there anything wrong with the previous 2 knob controllers?
Not at all! Designing and coding these controllers is my hobby, and making all these functions with a meaningful display menu controllable with just two encoders was a fun challenge.

Will this work on my Mixpre, 6-series, 7-series, Zoom recorder, Tascam, etc.?
No – these fader units are only compatible with Sound Devices 8 series. You can probably use it for something with a DAW

What’s the build quality like?
It’s important for me to disclaim what kind of operation this is. I am designing and building these units during my nerd time in my basement office when I’m not working as a freelance sound recordist. The enclosure and knobs are 3D printed, which means the product will not look and feel like the very expensive sound equipment we’re all used to.

The electronics design revolves around a custom embedded microcontroller on a PCB with expensive ALPS encoders which are non detent / smooth to the feel. The enclosure is printed on expertly fine-tuned 3D printers using high quality carbon infused PETG which is strong, UV/heat resistant and pretty good looking for a 3D print.

Can I use multiple USB controllers at a time?
Yes – you can use a USB hub to plug in several controllers, but if you have a special use case, please consult me simon@iddqd.dk and I will help to see if it’s possible.

How do I set up 14 channel ISO recording on a 833?
You can use the 833 return inputs as sources for Bus 1 and Bus 2. Those two busses are recordable, but they cannot contribute to the mix. With this controller you have a quick hands-on method of controlling bus gains and soloing those channels.

Can I change the channel configuration myself?
Yes! Press and hold the right knob when booting up, you can now select a mixer model.
